HISTORY
As an artist led theatre laboratory nervousystem is singular in Ireland in its ideology, structure and endeavor.
We have worked extensively both individually and collectively as a full-time ensemble operating a sustained active performance research. In this time we have achieved significant success in evolving innovative performative, compositional and dramaturgical practices, which have captured the imagination of audiences and theatre professionals national and international.
nervousystem was born out of a series of fora initiated and led by Artistic Director Aiden Condron held in January 2002 at the Crypt Arts Centre in Dublin Castle, Ireland. These encounters facilitated discussion, exploration and experimentation, in an exclusively creative context, on the art of theatre. At this time it was the only resource of its kind and it was attended by some of Ireland's most respected theatre practitioners. The summer of that year nervousystem inaugurated a two-week intensive artistic retreat, which took place in Tinahely in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. This became the springboard for the development of an International theatre ensemble that is now working on a full-time basis continuing and maintaining a strong commitment to the nervousystem endeavor.
To date nervousystem has been made possible by the dedication and financial contributions of its members, and productions to date by the support of small but much appreciated donations of time and money by friends, local businesses and the theatre community. We have also received support through awards and grants from The Arts Council, Culture Ireland and Dublin City Council. We are actively seeking further financial support and we appeal to established members of the business community to come forward with a view to forming partnerships to enable us to continue to develop our work, and to create a more secure position for us within the community we wish to serve.
